Rang 4 Class Meeting Notes 2018

Punctuality
School day begins at 8.30. Children will be marked late after 8.40. Your child will need a note if they have been absent or late for school. Alternatively contact the office. New sign in and Sign out book.

Classroom Organisation
There are two baskets per group, one big basket for books and one small basket for copies. Classroom jobs change every week. Group leader in each group changes every week.

Core Curriculum-Main Subject
Strands: Myself and others, Development Education, Care of the Environment/ Sustainable Development, Moral Development, Faiths and Festivals - Judaism and Buddhism.

Classroom Rules
Children have agreed on the classroom rules and they have signed a class contract. The Code of Behaviour and the Anti-Bullying policy is available on the website and in hard copy from the office. Focus on Anti - Bullying in term 2. (SPHE).

Homework
Every night: Written exercise (or to be completed by Friday), maths, oral work, spelling, tables, reading to take up to 45 minutes.

Lunches
Healthy lunches are school policy. Children need to take any unfinished food home. There is a NO NUTS policy in the school. No birthday treats policy. 4th Class are in Mount Pleasant/park on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

English, Maths and Gaeilge
Aim to read three novels this year. Focus on creative writing (brainstorming, drafting, editing). Spelling: My Spelling Workbook - One Unit per week. Pre-test on Monday - Test on Friday. Please sign both tests weekly. Pen licence introduced this year. Maths: Team teaching approach (small groups). Tables are really important. Please revise them with your child orally. Gaeilge: An rud is tabhachtaí ná go bhfuil na páistí ag caint Gaeilge! Spellings each week.

Project work:
Children will be given tasks each month. They will be given certain criteria which must be included in the project. Projects- based on topics covered in class.

Art and P.E
Art class is on Wednesdays-suitable clothes needed. P.E Wednesday (G.A.A.) and Friday (Mount Pleasant).

Weaving Welling Programme:
It will be taught through team teaching with Mrs. Ryan. An email will be sent to you to inform you of the topics that will be covered. We encourage you to talk to your child about these topics.

Internet Safety Policy
Parents signed it already when child entered RMDS. 4th class students will sign it this year.

Assessment
Maths- Informal check up after every topic in Maths. (Please sign tests)
End of term tests in Maths (Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Summer - sent home).
S.E.S.E. and Gaeilge- Informal check up through mini tests or quiz.

Communication
20 minutes in the morning for quick word, after school in yard, Email – mariad@rmds.ie, through Office, P/T Meetings (November). Please do not hesitate to inform me of any concerns, questions or issues you may have.
