End of Term Newsletter Dec 2018 Rang 4As 2018 comes to an end, we look back on all the exciting things we got up to during Term 1. It was very busy in Rang 4 and we worked hard but had some fun along the way!
In History, we completed a project on Ancient Greece. We worked in mini groups where some people wrote their final draft and others typed it using the laptops. We presented our work using posters and displayed it in the classroom. In Science, we carried out lots of investigations, like making lava lamps, creating circuits and parachutes and finding ways to help reduce the speed of ice melting.
In English we read lots of books and completed reviews on them. We finished our class novel “Seven Spiders Spinning” which was very good. We wrote three stories titled, ‘The Accident’, ‘The Broken Mirror’ and ‘The Box in the Attic’ all of which were filled with lots of adventure and excitement.
In Visual Arts, we portrayed autumn through colour and drawings, we carefully planned our Greek clay pots and decorated them, we created the solar system, and we designed Christmas posters.
We completed a detailed study of Judaism this term as part of our Core Curriculum where we learned about the history, food, customs, way of life etc. of the religion. We visited the Irish Jewish Museum in November where we got to see many artefacts from the religion.
Cloadagh and Fionnán were on the Active School Committee this term and what a great job they did, completing the various tasks, attending the meetings and spreading the word about becoming more active.
Síbha and Zain have been great class representatives on the Student Council. They worked hard and always took our opinions and ideas back to the meetings!
Rang 4 were very lucky this term and had many class trips. Kicking it all off was a trip to the Grand Canal for National Fitness Day. Next was a trip to UCD to the Classical Museum, followed by a walk to Dawson street to Hodges and Figgis Book shop to meet author Sarah Webb. On top of all this, Rang 4 got to go to Rathmines library for a Bricks4Kids workshop, where the children worked with Lego We Do sets.
Mrs. Ryan and Mr. Fairbrother supported us in class with different subjects e.g., Drama, English, Maths, Computers and Science as well as accompanying us on some of our class trips. Anne has been a huge help to us throughout the term and she is such a great support to have in our classroom.
Lastly, we have been occupied by the Christmas play for the last few weeks. We helped write the script, made props and contributed our ideas to the staging of the play.
We are looking forward to the Christmas concert and we would like to wish all our friends, family and staff at RMDS a very happy Christmas. We are excited to find out what 2019 holds for Rang 4!
