SCHOOL NEWS in Brief…..

30th January 2020

From the Principal’s desk:

Please note our Stay Safe Information Meeting for all parents takes place this Monday, 3rd February from 8-9 pm facilitated by Marian Heffernan. The Stay Safe Programme is taught each year in SI, R1, R3 and R5. However, the information session is open to parents of all children in the school. It gives a good overview of the programme and is also an opportunity to answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to our whole school assembly tomorrow morning focusing on anti-bullying awareness and positive mental health. Senior Infants will lead this month’s assembly and we have all been learning “Count on Me” as our song to sing together at the end. Make sure to ask your child about it tomorrow!

A reminder that school closes at the usual time on Friday, 14th February for midterm break and reopens on Monday, 24th February.

Please check for lost property at the gate in the morning. All items left at the weekend will be donated to charity.

From the Student Council:

“In My Shoes” Campaign

A Sligo man called Ciaran McHugh is planning on sending 5,000 pairs of runners and soccer boots to school children in Cape Town in South Africa. Our school is planning on helping him gather these children’s shoes for children aged 4 – 16 years old. You can bring in pairs of runners or football boots that are too small for your children. They must be in good condition and you need to tie the laces together. Your child can put a little note in with the shoes if they want. Shoes will be accepted from the 4th – 6th of February (next Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday!). We will leave boxes at the gate for your kids to put the shoes in.

Tips from The Green School Committee

[caption id="attachment_5696" align="aligncenter" width="612"] "cute foods characters - soup pan with boiling water. Download also contains: AI8, CDR8, SVG, hi-res JPEG, transparent PNG."[/caption]

Please make sure to cover your pans when cooking. Not only does it save fuel, but it greatly reduces the amount of steam produced. This steam can condense on your walls and ceilings and result in black mould, which can be a health hazard.
