12th February 2021

I can’t quite believe that it is the mid term break and we still don’t have a clear date for when the schools will reopen.

2021 has not lived up to the promise we had placed on it.  As the children throughout the school marked Chinese New Year today it occurred to me that maybe perhaps it couldn’t ever live up to that hope.  A quick google search about the year of the Ox had this to say about the year ahead...

You may encounter unexpected challenges, which could leave you feeling stressed out, distracted, and emotional this year.

and offered this advice…

The key to overcoming any potential bad luck is to strengthen your morale. Use this time to cultivate your relationships and with the support of your family and friends, you will likely manage to navigate any difficulties and gain a deeper appreciation for what you have.

I can’t vouch for the accuracy of those statements but I think their sentiment holds true.  We are living in a very different world at the moment and the return to normal seems as distant as ever, leaving us all a little flat.  The teachers have been trying to generate enthusiasm and interest as we know it has been waning.  We are all trying to help each other in any way we can.  I hope it has helped in your home.  If it hasn’t let us know and we will continue to try new things and different ways to engage and learn from each other.

Rang a Ceathair tried out making collages together today having heard of Rang a Trí s work last week.

This week I spent a considerable amount of time planning for next year as I try to make sure we have every resource available to support all the children in the school.  That is the nature of schools and children, nothing ever stands stills we are always moving on to the next thing.  This period of time will pass and we will be asked, ‘What was it like to live through it?’ we don’t know the answer to that question yet but we will and hopefully we can say that we came through it and looked after each other and have a deeper appreciation for what we have.

When school returns we hope that we will have lower numbers, an idea for when we might be able to reopen and the answers to the staff in their own school quiz.

Have a lovely break everyone,

Paul
