Senior Infants pictures were missing from last week's newsletter. Here they are.
It has been an incredibly busy week. Every day seemed to have its own level of busyness. The green school committee did an amazing job at promoting scooting. All the classes had so much fun trying out the obstacle course on the yard.
Rang a 3 straight after their sewing last week were baking on Monday.
We were all incredibly jealous of Rang a 4 on Wednesday as they went off in glorious sunshine to Clara Lara. We didn’t realise but they left the sun behind and it was a little greyer in Laragh. It didn’t stop them having a lot of fun.
Rang a Trí had to contend with a yellow thunderstorm warning the next day because Irish weather is Irish weather. Thankfully it didn’t stop them having a great time, but they did come home with bags of wet clothes and happy memories.
Thursday Rang a 6 displayed their EU projects and the rest of the school got to taste their way around Europe and hopefully learn something on the way.
I unfortunately only got to look at the food as I was holding interviews for a new secretary. Mary has banned me from telling people because she didn’t want to make a fuss, has decided that she is going to retire at the end of the year. We met some incredible candidates but the successful candidate will have very big shoes to fill. Mary has been such an integral part of the school we are going to miss her terribly. We hope to hold onto her in an advisory capacity for as long as we can get away with because for a long time Mary has been the glue that holds so many things together. We have two weeks now to celebrate her and be grateful for all that she has given to the school and I'm very confident that you all will join me in doing just that.
Rang a Sé were at the Podcast Studio today as part of creative season and Rang a Dó were at the library.
Rang a 1 agus a 3 released their butterflies. Rang a 1 have been minding and watching the caterpillars transition into beautiful painted ladies.
And if that was enough the teachers were all putting the finishing touches on the End of Year Reports.
These reports are for you the parents so be mindful about sharing them with your children. Often times they are shared because you want to let them know how amazing they are. What I would like is for the children to feel amazing themselves because of who they are and not because of something someone else says or because of a number in a box. Read them for your own information and use the Me as a Learner page that came home in the school bags today to ask them about how they feel about their year and what they would like to improve, what they would like to do more of and what they have learned. How are they different or the same from this time last year? If you do find yourself or them comparing their scores to someone else, remember that it is completely natural to want to do that but humans are too complex and individual to be compared. They are better than no one and no one is better than them. Open your aladdin app to access the reports and if you do have any questions please call into the school and arrange a meeting with the teachers or myself.
Next week is Active Week and Ellen has a very busy schedule prepared for all the classes so hopefully the sun will shine and let us enjoy it all and the big event of the week is Rang a 6s graduation ceremony on Friday.
It seems like a long time since the Sports Day which was such an incredible success. I loved the feeling of fun and community that you all created. Well done to the PA and all the volunteers who pulled it all together. Enjoy all the photos below.
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Paul
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Sports Day last week – what an incredible afternoon of fun, energy, and community spirit! It was brilliant to see the parents’ relay make a comeback – and we loved the (friendly!) rivalry between kids and grown-ups alike.
An especially massive shout-out to Renagh Howley and all the amazing volunteers who made the day such a roaring success. We couldn't have done it without you!
As we wrap up the school year, a quick reminder that the final PA meeting of the year takes place next Wednesday at 8pm in The Hill Pub – in person. All are welcome – come along for a chat and a cheers to the year gone by!
And then we’re on the home stretch… mark your diaries! The last day of school is Friday, 27th June. As the final bell rings, make your way over to Dartmouth Square, where an ice cream truck will be waiting to help us all celebrate the end of another brilliant school year 🍦
Finally, we’re looking for more helping hands next year – whether you can volunteer an hour or help with one of our bigger events, we’d love to have you on board. Just drop us a line at PA@rmds.ie.
Thanks again, and here’s to a great finish to the school year!

We have been very lucky to have Ava and Eabha coaching Rang 4 agus a 5 for the past few weeks. The fact they are past pupils makes me very proud.
