From the Principal’s Desk….

I don’t know about you but that was a fast week.

As I was preparing to invite the new Junior Infants to the school I stopped and was reflecting on what makes the school such a nice place to be and how could I convey that to the new parents and their children.  Generosity and kindness sprung to mind.  The parent body here are so generous in giving of their time and energy.  All three committees had meetings this week with each group trying to make the school a better place and then the chair of each committee spent the morning in school welcoming the new parents.  Last weekend we had an amazingly successful fundraising activity which came from one parent's idea and generosity of her time to make it happen.  This morning, rang a 3 had a parent come in to share their ideas on design and architecture and more parents will be visiting classes in the next few weeks as creative season gets up and running.  I have volunteers coming to help with the Santry team training on Monday.

In a very busy week, I enjoyed my moment of reflection which sparked a wave of appreciation for your generosity.  Thank you to each and every one of you who contribute to making this school as lovely as it.

This week was also the week when the older classes all became a little strange as we sat in rows and teachers didn’t help you when you were stuck and you have to fill out a very strange answer sheet. Standardised testing is a strange experience for the children.  Some like it, others don't.  Some get stressed, others don’t.  Some will be worried about the results and others won’t.  Our job is to help the children deal with these things, it is okay to feel these things, they are a little different and difficult and that’s okay.  The tests are only a tiny part of who they are.  When the results do come your way in the school reports please remember that.

Shauna our past pupil and yoga teacher, was in again and was working with children on finding their calm space through balance.  It’s a work in progress and hopefully when active week comes around we’ll be ready.

Next week, the Santry team are training on UCD’s running track on Monday before the actual event on Tuesday.  There is space on the bus so all of Rang a 6 are coming as supporters.  We will get to wear our new running bibs so generously donated by last year's sixth class parents and hopefully have some fun as we run.

Next week is Biodiversity week, Rang a hAon got in there early and had a visit from Collie Ennis.  Collie is a very interesting man who has a love and passion for all things creepy and crawly.

Rang a 6 will be visiting Leinster House on Wednesday and Junior Infants will be starting the summer tour schedule with a trip to Airfield farm on Friday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Paul

From the Board of Management….

There has been a significant uplift in voluntary contribution and the BOM would like to thank all the parents for their response to the initiative. The Bí Cinéalta policy has been approved and is being readied for implementation from September.

Run Kids Run was a great success - congratulations to all who participated in it!

As a reminder, the Hall is an available space for rental in the evenings and weekends. Any enquiries can be sent to hallrental@rmds.ie. Look out for the flyer on ‘Hall Rental’ in the coming weeks.

Finally, attendance has improved on average 2% in the last 2 months which is very positive.

From the PA….

Run Kids Run - GREAT support from RMDS

First a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in Run Kids Run last week. It was an incredible success with 162 participants which was unreal support from RMDS. We raised over €8,500 for the school. Massive thanks to Orla Gilmore, for helping organise the event for the school, for Gordon D'Arcy for being there on the day to drum up some serious excitement and all the parents that volunteered. Call for last minute sponsorships, please send into the secretaries office to be in with a chance to be included in the raffle.

Special Offer – Limited Places Available for Primary School Gaeltacht Course

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We hope this message finds you well.

Spleodar is a not-for-profit youth organisation that runs immersive, three-week Gaeltacht

courses for young people during the summer months. Over the past 27 years our mission is to promote the Irish language in a fun, supportive, and memorable way. Our goal is for young students to foster a positive experience when it comes to speaking Irish and to carry that confidence with them into adulthood.

We would like to let you know that there are still 20 places available on our primary school Gaeltacht course, Spleodar Ros Muc, which runs from 27th June to 19th July 2025. This course is specifically tailored for younger students and offers a fantastic mix of language learning, cultural activities, and fun. Every minute of everyday is planned. The student to staff ratio is 6 to 1. As an added incentive, we are currently offering a special discounted rate for this course. The regular cost is €1,260, but we are delighted to offer it now for just €700. The reason for such a discount is that as a non for profit company we would rather have a bean an tí full than make a profit.

If you are interested in securing a place or would like more information, please contact us at 091 388916 or email eolas@spleodar.com

Please feel free to check out our Instagram and Facebook. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

We look forward to welcoming your child to Spleodar Ros Muc this summer.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Aogán Mac Conmara
