School News in Brief….

6th January 2023

From the Principal’s Desk….

Beannachtaí Nollaig na mBan oraibh ar fad. Traditionally that would mean that roles were reversed in the house today meaning that women got to relax and meet up with their friends while the men looked after the cooking and cleaning. In our modern society maybe this isn’t as necessary but I do hope that you get to enjoy the last day of Christmas in your own way.

I’m not sure if I am quite ready to date things as 2023 yet but here we are. A New Year is here and the children have arrived back full of enthusiasm with excellent intentions for the New Year. That energy is infectious and we are equally excited about starting the New Year in the best way possible.

I hope that you had a lovely time with your loved ones and that you can hold onto the memories that brought you joy and let go of the ones that didn’t. Especially as we are still in the dark part of winter without all the lights to cheer us up.

There have been so many reports of sicknesses and illnesses over the break that it is no surprise that the HSE have asked me to share a note regarding illnesses within the school community and how we can prevent their spread. Please find a letter attached with this newsletter. An overview of the letter is that we need to continue what we had done so effectively during covid around hand hygiene, staying at home when unwell and getting vaccines when they are available.

The next term for extra curricular activities will begin on the week of the 16th January and finish on the week of the 27th of March. There will be a tight turnaround for getting application forms in. Please try to submit the application forms as early as possible next week. Children who were in the class previously generally get first preference but if the form is submitted late their place cannot be guaranteed.

Vaccinations for the Junior Infants are due to take place next Tuesday for Junior Infants.

The climbing frame will be up in the hall next week as part of our PE programme so children will need to wear suitable clothing for the week.

Please check the RMDS Calendar on our website for all dates of upcoming events. Have a lovely weekend,

Paul
