Rang a hAon Christmas Report

Hello all.
This term Rang a hAon have been very busy.
We celebrated the beautiful autumn by taking a nature walk in Ranelagh park where we collected leaves and nuts to display on our nature table. We had a lovely day and learned about our local trees at the same time.
On a very rainy day in October we ventured out for our first class tour to The National Gallery of Ireland. It was great fun, and we learned a lot about portraits and Irish artists., and made beautiful paintings of our favourite artist.

In maths we have been doing a lot of work on addition, number bonds and recalling number facts. The best way is to learn our tables off by heart. Everybody has been working so hard at these, and we are getting faster all the time. The five minute frenzies ( www.mathsdrills.com) are a great way to speed up when adding. We also had a puzzle day in the class during maths week. Phew! Some of those puzzles were very hard but we all tried our best to work together, and since then we have been doing suduko in class when we have time.
Tá an Gaeilge I Rang a hAon go hIontach. We have learned some Gaeilge songs like Ceann, Cluas , Srón, Béal agus Smig agus Feicim an Ghrian and some poems too like Gráinne Gráinneog and Is maith le…. , Our favourite games in Gaeilge are Ocht mBosca ( 8 Boxes) , picleor (Pictionary) and Meatseál( Memory). But Rang a hAon have brilliant memories and are all great at remembering and using the words and phrases they have learned before.

Our author for this term was Roald Dahl. He has become very beloved by all, and I hope the children will go on to read and enjoy him for some time to come. We have read Fantastic Mr Fox, Georges Marvellous Medicine and The Twits as class novels. Rang a hAon even had a day in which they dressed up as a character from a Roald Dahl book. Miss Whelan, who loves Roald Dahl, paid us a special visit that day and had a good chat with Farmer Boggis.
