Rang 5  End of term 1 News

We really enjoyed this term, as well as working hard. We had lots of fun and banter with Ms. Ormiston. Rang a Cúig work is slightly harder but we are well able for the challenge!  New topics include long division, using protractors and geographical features of Ireland.

We were very interested when reading the book about Malala Yousafazi.  She was very inspiring and it’s shocking to think that she had to fight so hard for education for girls. In our class, we have fewer boys and need to make sure they are heard as well as our wonderful girls!!!

At Hallowe’en, our costumes were particularly impressive.  We had a werewolf, Santa Claus, a cupcake, a clown, unicorns, ghosts, a bat, the joker, a baby, Oriki, a princess, a snow queen, dead neighbours, demons, devils and many many more.

We also participated in a module with St. Michael’s house. Our class were split in two due to the large numbers. Each group visited their school and in return, each group hosted a little reception in the GP room for St. Michael’s house pupils. We played parachute games, had treats and got to know the pupils quite well. We learned we are all the same; kids who just wanna have fun!

In November, we visited the Mosque in Clonskeagh. We enjoyed complaining about the length of the walk, but not the walk itself!! We did spot Alpacas though!  It was so interesting to find out all about other people’s religions and beliefs. The tour guide was impressed with our knowledge and we both answered and asked more questions than the secondary school that were also present. After our tour, Amelia and Clara’s Dad, Peter invited us into his classroom in the Mosque school and we had lunch with the sixth class pupils. We found it a little unusual as the boys and girls had to separate to different sides. We discovered they had the same interest as us such as bottle flipping. They gave us a souvenir of Islamic Cultural Centre of mugs and markers.

We also visited St. Attracta’s Senior School in Ballinteer where we met up with other primary schools as part of the Cór na nÓg children’s choir. We sang ALL day!! We were impressed with the size of their yard. Daniel had a super lunch day and still talks about it!

Art, PE and Drama are our favourite subjects. Ms. Curran and Ms. Ormiston set us with new board games such as Anomia, the game of life and Frustration for morning playtime. We loved decorating the classroom for Christmas. Kitty supplied a pink Christmas tree. The other preparation for Christmas was donating good to the focus Ireland hamper.

We genuinely had a good term and we will miss Ms. Ormiston as she leaves to have her baby. Because we had Ms. Ormiston in junior infants, we enjoyed visiting memory lane and looking back at our junior infant photos. We would like to wish her good luck and look forward to when she visits us with her new baby.

We are very excited to begin 2017 with our new teacher and we’re sure she will just love us! We wish our new teacher Ms. Cawley lots of luck and hope she loves the atmosphere in RMDS as much as we do!
