From the Principal’s Desk….

Thank you to everyone for their attendance at our Winter Concerts throughout the week. The children had a ball, and we hope you did too! The children will be performing for each other this Tuesday, when they will all get a chance to come together and showcase all their hard work to each other, and celebrate the festive spirit.

I would like to thank the PA – and in particular the Christmas Fair and Christmas Tree Committees for all the work that went into making the Christmas Fair such a wonderful day again this year led by Eimear Marrinan (Aoibhinn - R1 & Fiadh’s - JI mum), Gráinne Fahey  (Edie – R6, Iris - R5 & Tara – R1’s mum), Lorraine Hackett (Edith - R6, Toby - R5 & Stella - R3’s mum), Juan Valverde and Kate Morris (Roisín’s - SI parents) and supported by so many of our wonderful parents. The time, energy and planning does not go unnoticed and is so very much appreciated! Well done to Rang 6 who displayed excellent entrepreneurial skills through the setting up of their impressive stalls and to Annie Blayney and Rita Brennan who supported them. Thank you to our beautiful choir for their joyful performance on the day and to Therese Coogan & Aoileann Farley for their dedication and hard work with the choir over the year. It really added a special touch to the whole day!

From the Student Council….

Hello everyone, we are here to remind you about our upcoming Festive Charity event.

This time of year normally marks our annual community effort to support vulnerable people and families with a fundraising appeal.

This Thursday, 21st  December we are holding a Pyjama/Christmas Jumper Day where every class will be turning their classroom into a cinema for a few hours with a movie and popcorn!

Donations can be made online from today using our website. You can click on the link or go to www.rmds.ie - Click on the Payments cloud and scroll down to School Activities and Items. Then click Festive Charity. All funds raised will be split between the two charities we have chosen to support this year which are Saint Vincent de Paul and UNICEF. They are two really worthy organisations and your support is really appreciated.

A little bit about the two charities…

St Vincent de Paul - St. Audeon’s & St. Michael's Conference

This year RMDS has chosen St. Vincent De Paul (SVP) as one of the Christmas charities. We are liaising with the St. Michael’s & St. Audoen’s group from SVP who cover the south inner city area from O’ Connell Bridge to Heuston Station, Temple Bar and part of the Iveagh Trust Building (Kevin St.) This group has 7 members, all of whom are volunteers. This group’s catchment area is D2 and D8 where a large number of people are living in flats. In the last few years, in addition to the existing client base, they now support homeless families in ten different accommodation centers, four of which are used for emergency housing and the others are hostels.

On a biweekly basis the group meets up with families struggling to survive on the income available to them and distribute food bags and other financial assistance on an individual basis following an assessment of need. They always engage fully with the person in need providing a willing ear and where it is needed we give advice and encouragement.

Last year the group assisted 134 families including 77 children and teenagers.

When people are in real need and have no place else to turn the St Vincent de Paul is always there. This is a vital service. Please help us to continue by donating as generously as you can.

UNICEFGaza Emergency Appeal

In the deathly silence between the bombs, children’s pain and suffering rage on.

The war has brought nothing but misery and trauma to the lives of millions of children with thousands of children being killed and injured.

Homes, whole communities and hospitals  have been destroyed.

Every waking moment is a nightmare for children in Gaza. Please donate now to send vital aid to Gaza and the wider state of Palestine.
