From the Principal’s Desk….

What a beautiful week this week in RMDS. It was perfect weather for our Rang 6 cohort to head west to Delphi for their last school tour. Judging by the photos of perfect blue skies and big smiles on their faces, they had a blast and will be returning home later this afternoon after two nights away.

Rang 1 are also embracing the fine weather and are gone to Bloom today, in the Phoenix Park, as part of their work with Incredible Edibles.

The RMDS Orchestra had the opportunity to visit The Podcast Studio this week and learn a little more behind the scenes of podcasts and recording. They also had a chance to record some of their performances both as a group and individually. It was a wonderful experience for them!

It is with great pleasure that we learned that our school is to be awarded the Pieta AmberFlag for our commitment in promoting positive mental health by encouraging teamwork and contributions from peers. We will continue to raise awareness of stigmas which exist and the stressors on our collective mental and emotional wellbeing. Well done to our R6 Wellbeing Committee and to Annie, Sara and all our staff members who work so hard with the children to raise awareness of Wellness and Wellbeing in our school.

And some more good news this week

Well done to Eddie in Senior Infants who won a Special Merit Award in the 69th Texaco Children’s Art Competition for his piece Frogs in the Garden

Well done to Conn in Rang 6 for his recent athletics achievements winning first place in the U14 javelin, shot put and high jump and second place in U13 1200m running in the Dublin Championships. His team also came third place in the All Ireland cross country.

Please note our school will also be closed for all the children on Thursday, 8th June to facilitate inservice training for staff on the new Primary Language Curriculum and Primary Curriculum Framework.

Once again, If you expect your family circumstances to change over the summer and this will result in your child moving schools please let us know as soon as possible so that we can continue to put plans in place for next year. It is important for the school to know asap as we have waiting lists for classes throughout the school.

Please check the RMDS Calendar on our website for all dates of upcoming events.

Wishing you a lovely bank holiday weekend!

From the PA….

Sports Day is coming!!! It will take place on Sunday, 11th June in Sandford Park secondary school from 11am - 2pm. Sports Day is a huge event in the school calendar and kids from all classes get a chance to play together and run races. Parents’ Tug of War is always a major event and teddy bear races, three legged races and egg (potato) and spoon races get everyone involved in a really fun way. There will be games, merch, a tuck shop and baked goods, as well as a chill out zone, meaning that there is really something for everyone.

We still need volunteers to help with Sports Day so if you can offer time, please email pa@rmds.ie. We also need baked goods (NO NUTS) so if you have skills in the kitchen, please let us know and bring them along.

On Thursday, 15th June in the yard, the Green Schools committee is organising a clothes swap. If you have good quality clothes that you would like to donate, please let us know (pa@rmds.ie) and we can arrange collection. Also, if anyone has clothes rails that we can use for the event, we would hugely appreciate it. Again, drop us a line and we can arrange to get them from you.

See you all at Sports Day!
