School News in Brief…

From the Principal’s Desk….

I was having a chat with a parent at the gate about the joy he felt at seeing all the spring Art and I couldn’t help but share that feeling especially with the extra light, warmth and the bursts of colours as the flowers begin to bloom. Then Irish weather does what only Irish weather can do - snows.

The excitement that snow brings to children is one of my favourite things and as I get caught up with the adult worries of slips, falls and the extra difficulty of getting to work I try not to let go of that excitement completely. It is the great privilege of my job that I get brought back to that feeling regularly. On Tuesday I walked through the hall and could feel the buzz of extra energy as Rang 5 worked with Senior Infants to teach them some dance steps as the school prepares for Seachtain na Gaeilge and the Céilí Mór.

Rang 4 and Rang 3 have nearly Christmas levels of excitement as they get ready for their presentations at the science blast event in the RDS next Tuesday. Rang 4 are trying to find the best fuel for their rockets while Rang 3 are trying to design the best vehicle. It’s brilliant seeing the problems the children face and watching as they try to find solutions for them.

The choir and orchestra will be attending Cór Fhéile next Wednesday in the National Basketball Arena. If you need more information contact tess@rmds.ie

But for now everyone has been embracing the snow theme, the result of this was rows of socks drying on the radiators.

Junior infants kept the fun going by making snowmen in aistear.

Don’t Forget The school will be closed next Friday 8th of March to facilitate the referendum.

Two very large ovens arrived to facilitate the provision of hot lunches after the Easter Break. As we work out the logistics of where to put them, could you please have a read through the poster at the bottom of this email and the attached letter.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Paul

From the PA….

Thank you to everyone who supported Movie Night in the school last Friday. It was a lovely event and great to have a chance to meet parents for a drink in the hall.

Thanks also to all who attended the meeting on Tuesday night in the Hill. Even with the packed pub around us, it was lovely to see everyone face to face.

Next Thursday is World Book Day so the PA is organising a Book Swap in the yard on Thursday morning (March 7th). Please bring in good quality, children's books (from aged 4 up: no board books or baby books please!) on Wednesday 6th and books will be available to everyone free of charge on Thursday morning. There is no need to bring a book in order to take a book! Book sets are particularly welcome!

From the Student Council

The student council are looking at the yard and how to make it more fun for everyone. There will be a frisbee tournament for Rang 3-6 starting next week which is run by Rang 6.
