1st Term Newsletter — Rang a Ceathair

4We had a very busy and enjoyable term in Rang 4.

In History, we completed a project on the 1916 rising, researched it online also used books and other resources. Some people wrote the final draft and others typed it using the laptops. We had a visit to the school from the Irish army who presented the flag and proclamation at a ceremony in the GP room.

Éabha and Andries, our representatives on the Student Council, learned the 4th paragraph of the proclamation off by heart.

We wrote stories in English including one about King Lir. We read lots of books, kept records of the titles and did a book review every month. This term, we finished our class novel “Seven Spiders Spinning”, it was very good.

This term we were split into 3 maths groups, 2 groups stay with Miss Neylon in the classroom and 1 goes to Mr Mulholland downstairs.

On Wednesdays, this term, we did GAA skills with Simon in the yard. Denis Bastick and Michael Darragh Macauley visited the school after winning the Sam Maguire Cup. A few people from 3rd , 4th , 5th and 6th interviewed them. Heather, Lara and Julien from our class interviewed them.

A lady from An Taisce brought people from Denmark to see how our school was getting on with Green Schools and our class was chosen to make up dance moves for “Save the Power”. Joanie and Andrew are on the Green Schools committee and had a meeting with them. We have been monitoring energy use and the bins in the classroom every week and we are doing very well.

Ms. Judge and Mr. Mulholland taught us while Ms. Neylon was out at the Parent Teacher meetings.

We did our best handwriting on a sheet of paper for Ms Neylon to show to our parents at the meetings.

In Science we made simple circuits and quiz boards.

On the 8TH of December, we went on a trip to the National Print Museum and we looked at the printing machines, did “wanted” posters of ourselves and made hats.

We went to the Rathmines Library for a Christmas quiz and Sadhbh, Rebecca and Andries won prizes.

We have lots of items for the annual hamper charity collection for Focus Ireland.

Some of our parents were on the team that won the PA quiz and got 1st prize for our class and we will be able to get some new books and games.

We enjoyed our big breaks at Mountpleasant Tennis Club because the park is having some work done to it, but it will be ready in 2016. We can’t wait!!!
In October we filled three marble jars and the whole class got a homework pass. We are filling another jar and the reward will be a class table quiz.
We had great representatives on the Student Council, Éabha and Andries and the Green School Committee, Joanie and Andrew. They worked so hard and we thought they were great! They were representing Rang 1 as well.

Some of Rang 4 were members of the Choir with Ms. Coogan and even sang Christmas carols at the Christmas fair.

We take responsibility in class and have jobs, we change them every Monday morning, and sometimes we forget to do some of our jobs!!!

We are looking forward to the Christmas concert and the holidays.
