Term 2 in Rang 4

Here are some of the things we did this term in Rang 4.

In Core Curriculum/SESE we did a project on “Endangered Species” and used Powerpoint to present it. We worked in groups also did etchings in Art of the animal we were doing for our project. We know how important it is to look after the environment. We also studied Lent, Pilgrimages, St Patrick’s Day and Easter and we discussed the refugee crisis in Syria.

We met Gillian Perdue, the author of “Adam’s Starling”. She gave us advice on how to write a book which will help all of us when we do “Write a Book” project in Term 3.

We went to Rathmines Library to collect our second class novel called “Kensuke’s Kingdom” by Michael Morpurgo. While we were there, Eoin (one of the librarians) gave us a talk about why libraries are important and how to use them and do research. World Book Day was in March and we swapped books. With the money from the Parents’ Association pub quiz, we got some new books and we are taking turns reading them in silent reading.

We were reading buddies for Rang 1 every Monday and Tuesday for 5 weeks, it was great fun!

We are also in the middle of Seachtain Na Gaeilge so we are doing a Ceilí on Monday, March 14th. The dances we are doing are Ballaí Luimní , lonsaí na hlnse agus Baint an Fhéir. The song we did was called “Peigín Leitir Móir”. There will be spot prizes. Rang 6 visited to read their books as Gaeilge. Rang 5 had a Margadh Císte (bake sale) for Seachtain na Gaeilge and we went shopping and practised our Gaeilge. The cakes were very, very, very nice!!! Parents come in every Tuesday and Thursday mornings to help us with our Gaeilge Léitheoireacht in class. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!

We did some songs this term for example “Grace” sung by Jim McCann. We also listened to a version by Anthony Kearns, the tenor, and he was ok. We also did “Tóg Amach mé”.

Last term we did a project on the1916 rising and this term we’re revising our work for Proclamation Day, Tuesday March 15th. Joanie’s mum came in and spoke to us about what life was like in Dublin before the Rising. Pauline Hall (Clara’s granny (R5) spoke to us about the people and places in Rathmines and the Rising. She gave us a copy of her book.

Some of us are doing the Mini World Cup. Last year Daniel’s team won!

We also did Santry trials in athletics for under 11s and under 10s.

We got our green flag for water last term. We had an assembly and we sang our water song.

We got new grass in the green area and it’s very comfyJ

We got new games with class money. In our class we do marble jars if the class fill up a jar of 50 marbles we get a prize. When we fill up three jars we get something like a homework pass.

We also had a movie night in our school. There were 4 movies to watch (of course you had to buy tickets for the movie you wanted to watch). The movies were “Inside Out”, “Song of the Sea”, “Minions”, “Snoopy” and “Charlie Brown”. For the first time ever in the history of RMDS Movie Night there was a movie for 5th and 6th class which was “Ant Man”.

Also in Maths we learned long multiplication which nearly everybody found hard at the start but it became much easier for everybody by the end.
