Dia dhaoibh go léir.

This term went very fast indeed, but you know what they say “ Time Flies when you’re having fun”!

We arrived back after Christmas and got straight into working hard learning all about winter. We read a very old folktale from the Ukraine called “The Mitten”. We also learned about materials to keep us warm such as wool, and we made lovely warm woolly hats in Art.

We have improved a lot at our reading and have learned some important words called Dolch list words. Our readers now have words in them too!

We watched a lot of the movie “Inside Out” when we were learning about our feelings. We learned that its o.k. to feel sad sometimes.

Our Day and Night theme was great fun. We learned the science about how we have a day and a night, and we also did some light experiments using a torch and mirrors and prisms. The Owl is nocturnal so Miss Coogan read us her favourite story called “Owl Babies” and we did some lovely printing and clay nests in art.

Spring arrived and with it we began to notice some changes. Charley’s baby sister Amelia came to visit a few times and she is growing all the time. Flowers started to grow around us and we grew a lot too, except for Miss Coogan and Joyce. We really hope Mr. Fairbrother has stopped growing or he’ll go through the roof!

All plants and animals need water to grow so we learned a lot about growing and changing and how important water is for the Earth. The whole school had a water day and we learned a great song too. It’s on the website if you want to sing it. We also learned about capacity, and weight in maths and made little sprout-houses for some seeds. We read “Sid the Seed” and really loved this story. Our seeds sprouted and grew just like Sid.

We learned about treating pets well and how to be safe around dogs. We even had Nell’s dogs and Sadie Kate’s guinea pigs in for a visit.

Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge íontach ar fad. Rinneamar damhsa gaelach sa halla le Mr. Fairbrother. Chanamr a lán amhráin gaelach freisin ar scoil cosúil le “Oró sé do bheatha bhaile” agus “Bhí Leprecháin ina shuí faoin gcrann”. Bhí céilí mór sa halla agus margadh cístí le Rang 6. Mmmmmm!

Our project for 1916 was great fun. 1916 is 100 years ago, so we learned about the toys children played with at that time. We discovered that many children made their own toys from scraps around their homes, so we made sock puppets, cars, dolls and sailboats from recycled material.

After all our hard work we needed a day of relaxing so we went on a trip to Airfield Farm. Wow! We know all the animals names in Irish and we even made a mural as a whole class about it. We are Amoooooozing!

It’s still Spring now and there have been many celebrations recently. We learned about Chinese New Year, Lent, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, Pancake Tuesday, St, Valentine’s Day and Easter. Phew! A lot to celebrate.

Thank you to all the parents for the help and support again this term. I hope you all have a lovely family celebration together over the Easter holidays,

Le Meas
