Spring Term Report from Rang a Sé

This term we had visits from quite a few different people. First we had a talk about drugs. Rory’s step-dad Gerry came in and talked to us about drugs and how bad they are for our body. He explained in detail how even an overdose of good drugs are bad for your body and how teenagers who take drugs or drink lots of alcohol damage their brains.

We also got a visit from Mark’s mum who talked to us about decision making and teamwork. She put us in two groups and together we had to made sturdy towers out of paper cards and tape. It was great fun!

After that we got a visit from Jonathan Swift who showed us how to create interesting characters in just one sentence. And last but not least we got a visit from the DSPCA who talked to us about cruelty to animals and showed us some giant African snails that were exactly like their name….giant!

For Art this term we did lots of messy things. We first got some clay and were asked to make a fairy house. When we had that done we made clay animals. We also did papier-mâché and that was even messier! We all made animals. We used a wire hanger for our shapes. We used the papier-mâché animals for a nature walk with the buddies.

This term for PE we did gymnastic where we were taught how to do some tricks and learned some really cool routines. In PE we learned some new Irish dances. We have also continued to do yoga every Wednesday. The last few weeks some people have been training for Santry which is a running competition.

This term we made pancakes for Pancake Tuesday. They were absolutely delicious with some lemon and sugar. We also made short stop motion movies with our fairy houses. We had to take loads of pictures. They are very good and very exciting. Some people used clay animals and márla people.

This term we learned about famous artists and poets such as Caravaggio, Turner and Yeats.

We went to the National Library to see W.B Yeats and Caravaggio and Turner in the National Gallery.

We found out lots of interesting facts that we didn’t know before! Lots of creative details were pointed out to us that would never have occurred to us previously which changed our perspective of a painting!

This term we also had Seachtain na Gaeilge. We spoke lots of Irish and did lots of Irish activities including the céilí.

Some of the class had their Confirmation. We also had Write a Book which was a very big project! It took quite a while but eventually we finished and had 27 printed books.
